A good foam bath cleanses gently, cares for the skin and has a pleasantly thick texture. For this, raw materials with very different properties must become a stable compound. We plan and supply homogenising mixers for this multi-stage process. Find out more in our cosmetics section.
Raw materials for a foam bath
Most bubble baths are based on an aqueous surfactant solution. The surfactants provide the cleaning effect, while the pH value should be around 5.5.
Re-fatting oils
Emulsifiers such as lecithin, fatty alcohols, lactic acid esters or glyceryl laurates distribute the oils evenly.
Thickeners and gelling agents
With a high water content, xanthan, cellulose, alginate or polyglycerol esters create the desired texture.
Requirements for the homogenising mixer
When designed correctly, modern plants ensure optimal processes. These points matter most:
- Induction of the water and fat phase in a hot/cold process straight into the shear zone of the dispersing machine
- A stable emulsion, with all components combined only shortly before filling
- A pressure and vacuum-proof design that keeps air out
- A scraper system that works in both directions, with vertical and horizontal agitators
- In-process pH monitoring
- Aseptic GMP design with CIP cleaning
Similar requirements apply to shower gels and shampoo. We are happy to advise you, including on used homogenising mixers.
FAQ: Producing foam bath
What is foam bath made of?
Water and high-foaming surfactants, thickeners, re-fatting oils with emulsifiers, fragrances, colours and preservatives. The pH is usually around 5.5.
How is foam bath produced industrially?
Surfactants are dissolved in water, powders and thickeners drawn in under vacuum, oils emulsified, additives mixed in and pH and viscosity adjusted. Large volumes are also produced continuously.
How is foaming avoided during production?
By working under vacuum, adding ingredients below the liquid level and using adapted speeds.
Which machine is suitable?
Pressure and vacuum rated homogenising mixers with scraper system, phase and powder induction, in-process pH measurement and a rotating CIP system.
Does SEEFRIED supply plants for foam baths?
Yes, we plan plants for foam baths and other surfactant products and offer suitable used homogenising mixers.
