Lip gloss is essentially a liquefied lipstick compound. The base is also enriched with care ingredients, flavours and moisturising substances. We plan and supply homogenising mixers that process these sensitive raw materials gently. Find out more in our cosmetics section.
Lip gloss and lipstick compared
Liquid shine
It consists mainly of oils and polymers such as polybutene, with only a little wax. Therefore, it is more fluid. In addition, it contains colour pigments, flavours and preservatives.
Solid stick
A higher wax content makes the compound firm and stable in shape. More on our lipstick compounds page.
Requirements for the homogenising mixer
Modern plants melt fats, draw in the liquid oils and homogenise them at the right temperature. At the same time, powerful agitators carry out several steps in parallel.
- Heated lines in the agitators prevent deposits
- Variable speed control for gentle incorporation
- Pressure and vacuum-proof design for work under a protective atmosphere
- Design based on particle size, surface and properties of the pigments
- Gentle treatment of active ingredients, so the colour develops fully on the lips

FAQ: Producing lip gloss
What is the difference between lip gloss and lipstick?
Lip gloss is liquid to gel-like and consists mainly of oils and film-forming polymers with little wax. Lipstick is a solid wax-oil mass with a higher pigment load.
How is lip gloss produced?
Oils and waxes are melted under temperature control, pigments, mica and care ingredients are drawn in and dispersed, flavours added gently and the deaerated mass is filled.
Why are heated pipes important?
They prevent components from setting in the pipework and reduce product losses and cleaning effort.
Which machine is suitable for lip gloss?
Heatable, pressure and vacuum rated homogenising mixers with variable speed, powder induction and optional inert gas atmosphere.
Does SEEFRIED offer plants for lip gloss?
Yes, we plan plants for decorative cosmetics and offer suitable used homogenising mixers.
