Temperature Control Systems

Temperature control is a key aspect when planning and building a plant tailored to your company. Heating and cooling times often take up a considerable part of the total batch time.

Shorter batch timesHeating and cooling often account for a large part of the batch time – a well-designed system saves the most here.
Precise temperature controlStepless, time-independent temperature setting protects sensitive products from thermal damage.
Primary or secondary circuitPrimary circuits heat and cool quickly; secondary circuits with heat exchangers control particularly precisely.

To achieve maximum efficiency and profitability, the temperature control system must therefore match your needs and be designed accordingly.

Standard temperature control systems include electric heating as well as steam connections, cooling water systems and steam plants. Gas heaters and hot water generators are also possible. For high temperatures, thermal oils can serve as the heat transfer medium.

SEEFRIED Verfahrenstechnik GmbH supports you right from the design of suitable production areas. We help you align them with the planned production plant.

Why temperature control matters

Temperature control systems supply heat to the vessel or remove heat from it. As a result, they play a central role in the production process. Product masses must be heated, cooled or kept at certain temperatures to ensure optimal flow and processing properties.

The system should also be designed to handle sensitive substances. Because thermal damage is possible, the temperature control should be integrated into your agitators. This enables individual, stepless and time-independent temperature adjustment. In addition, you can adapt the temperature whenever necessary.

Furthermore, a well-designed temperature control system lets you adapt flow behaviour and flow rate to individual requirements and regulations at any time.

Primary or secondary circuit?

Temperature control systems can be connected to the homogenising mixers via primary or secondary circuits. Primary circuits usually offer fast heating and cooling cycles. However, they can cause temperature overshoot or undershoot and normally consume more heating and cooling media.

Secondary circuits, on the other hand, use heat exchangers and form a closed system to the process plant. Therefore, they control the temperature extremely precisely, although heating and cooling times can be longer.

For cooling, buffer tanks with an integrated chiller work as a closed system. In this way, they drastically reduce waste water consumption. This not only protects the environment but also increases profitability.

Conventional heating and cooling media are water and steam, or thermal oil for particularly high temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions about temperature control systems

Why is the temperature control system so important?

Heating and cooling times often account for a large part of the total batch time. A well-designed temperature control system shortens process times, ensures the flow and processing properties of the product and protects sensitive substances from thermal damage.

Primary or secondary circuit – which is better?

Primary circuits usually allow fast heating and cooling cycles but can lead to temperature overshoot and higher media consumption. Secondary circuits with heat exchangers operate as a closed system with very precise temperature control, although heating and cooling times may be longer.

Which heating and cooling media are used?

Water, steam and – for particularly high temperatures – thermal oil are common. Energy sources include electric heating, steam, cooling water, gas heaters or hot water generators.

How can cooling water consumption be reduced?

Buffer tanks with an integrated chiller operate as a closed circuit. They significantly reduce waste water, protect the environment and increase profitability.
