Producing Cosmetic Pastes

Cosmetic pastes are intended for external use. They have a drying effect and bind secretions. For this, larger amounts of powder are folded in and finely dispersed. That is why pastes are also called concentrated suspension ointments. We plan and supply mixers that handle these high solids contents reliably. Find out more in our cosmetics section.

Powder inductionLarge amounts of powder incorporated safely under vacuum.
RecirculationAn even, homogeneous product.
Recipe controlAutomatic and documented in line with GMP.

Hard and soft pastes

There are often two types of pastes:

Hard pastes

They contain up to about 50 % solids. Therefore, they need strong agitators and powerful powder induction.

Soft pastes

They contain about 30 % solids. They spread more easily, but they still need a fine distribution of particles.

Requirements for the mixer

Besides clean production, handling very different viscosities is key. The plant should therefore offer the following:

  • Recirculation during homogenisation for an even product
  • Radial and vertical mixing by the agitators
  • Adjustable homogenising intensity via the speed
  • Hygienic design, for example with CIP cleaning
  • Automated control with recipe and batch management
  • GMP-compliant documentation of every batch

FAQ: Producing cosmetic pastes

What are cosmetic pastes?

Semi-solid preparations with a high powder content, regarded as concentrated suspension ointments, e.g. zinc or clay pastes. Hard pastes contain up to approx. 50 %, soft pastes approx. 30 % solids.

How are large amounts of powder incorporated?

Step by step under vacuum into the homogeniser and finely dispersed, so that no agglomerates or air inclusions form.

Why is recirculation important during homogenisation?

Circulating through the homogeniser ensures the entire product passes the shear zone evenly and becomes homogeneous.

Which machine is suitable?

Vacuum homogenising mixers with a powerful scraper agitator, controllable homogeniser speed and automatic recipe and batch control.

Does SEEFRIED offer plants for pastes?

Yes, SEEFRIED Verfahrenstechnik plans plants and supplies inspected used homogenising mixers.
