Manufacturing make-up

Today, make-up is the umbrella term for decorative cosmetics. These products are intended to enhance existing beauty. Increasingly, however, a caring effect is also coming to the fore. This is blurring the boundaries between care and decorative cosmetics. We design and supply homogenising mixers for foundation, concealer and similar products.

Fine emulsionsStable, narrowly distributed base.
Pigments without agglomeratesUniform colour and opacity.
Scraper systemGood mixing even at high viscosity.

Typical raw materials for make-up

Consistencies vary greatly. Nevertheless, almost all formulations use similar raw materials. A stable, fine emulsion frequently forms the base. In addition, there are:

Requirements for the plant

With decorative cosmetics it is a small particle size and very good distribution in the base mass that count. This is the only way for the product to work as intended. Modern homogenising mixers offer the following:

  • Pressure- and vacuum-resistant design for stable, narrowly distributed emulsions
  • Scraper system independent of the direction of rotation for radial and vertical mixing
  • Intensive homogenising with adjustable shear energy
  • Agglomerate-free dispersing of the pigments
  • CIP cleaning for compliance with all hygiene regulations

Are you planning a plant for foundation or another decorative product? Together we will review the formulation, batch size and cleaning concept. We will then propose a suitable new or used plant.

FAQ: Manufacturing make-up

What is make-up made of?

Liquid make-up and foundation are usually based on fine emulsions with colour pigments (mainly iron oxides, titanium dioxide), oils, waxes, emulsifiers, thickeners, preservatives and care substances.

What matters in manufacturing?

A very fine, uniform pigment distribution without agglomerates and a stable emulsion. This is the only way to get the shade, opacity and skin feel right in every batch.

How are pigments incorporated?

They are drawn in with little dust by vacuum directly into the homogeniser and dispersed with high shear, if necessary prepared as a pigment paste.

Which machine is suitable?

Pressure- and vacuum-resistant homogenising mixers with a scraper system, adjustable shear energy, heating/cooling jacket and GMP-compliant CIP.

Does SEEFRIED supply plants for decorative cosmetics?

Yes, we design plants for make-up, lipstick, lip gloss and mascara and offer inspected used homogenising mixers.
