Manufacturing cosmetic pastes

Cosmetic pastes are intended for external use. They have a drying effect and bind secretions. To achieve this, larger quantities of powder are folded in and finely dispersed. Pastes are therefore also regarded as concentrated suspension ointments. We design and supply mixers that reliably process these high solids contents. More on this under Cosmetics.

Powder inductionReliably incorporate large quantities of powder under vacuum.

Recipe controlDocumented automatically and in compliance with GMP.

Hard and soft pastes

A distinction is often made between two types of pastes:

Hard pastes

They contain up to about 50% solids. This calls for powerful agitators and high-performance powder induction.

Soft pastes

They contain about 30% solids. They are easier to spread but also require a fine distribution of the particles.

Requirements for the mixer

In addition to clean production, the handling of very different viscosities is what matters. The plant should therefore offer the following:

  • Circulation pumping during homogenising for a uniform product
  • Radial and vertical mixing by the agitators
  • Adjustable homogenising intensity via the speed
  • Hygienic design, for example with CIP cleaning
  • Automated control system with recipe and batch management
  • GMP-compliant documentation of every batch

FAQ: Manufacturing cosmetic pastes

What are cosmetic pastes?

Semi-solid preparations with a high powder content that are regarded as concentrated suspension ointments, e.g. zinc or clay pastes. Hard pastes contain up to approx. 50% solids, soft pastes approx. 30%.

How are large quantities of powder incorporated?

They are drawn into the homogeniser step by step under vacuum and finely dispersed so that no agglomerates or air inclusions form.

Why is circulation pumping during homogenising important?

Circulation via the homogeniser ensures that the entire product passes evenly through the shear zone and becomes homogeneous.

Which machine is suitable?

Vacuum homogenising mixers with a powerful scraper agitator, controllable homogeniser speed and automatic recipe and batch control.

Does SEEFRIED offer plants for pastes?

Yes, SEEFRIED Verfahrenstechnik designs plants and supplies inspected used homogenising mixers.
