Manufacturing shower gels

A good shower gel requires raw materials of very different natures to come together. The end result should be a stable, pleasantly viscous mass with good cleansing properties. We design and supply homogenising mixers that enable you to manufacture shower gel reliably and efficiently. You can find more about our solutions under Cosmetics.

Powder inductionPowder is drawn in below the liquid level without lumps.
Vacuum-resistantNo air in the product, no unwanted foam.
pH controlOptional measurement in the homogeniser chamber.

What is shower gel made of?

The basis of most shower gels is an aqueous surfactant solution. Other substances with clear functions are added:

Surfactants

They provide the cleansing effect. The pH value should be around 5.5.

Relipidising oils

Emulsifiers such as lecithin, fatty alcohols or glyceryl laurates distribute the oils stably. This is achieved through reliable emulsification.

Thickeners and gelling agents

Xanthan, cellulose, alginate or polyglycerol esters give the mass its pleasant consistency.

Requirements for the plant

Manufacturing is a multi-stage process. Homogenising mixers should therefore be well equipped:

  • Drawing in water and powder below the liquid level directly at the dispersing tool
  • Vacuum-resistant design to prevent air from being worked in
  • Scraper system independent of the direction of rotation with vertically and horizontally mixing agitators for highly viscous masses
  • Optional pH monitoring in the homogeniser chamber
  • Aseptic GMP design with integrated CIP system under the lid

Such a mixer is often also suitable for shampoo or bubble baths. We will be happy to advise you on whether a new or a used plant is the better fit.

FAQ: Manufacturing shower gel

What is shower gel made of?

Mainly water and washing-active surfactants, supplemented by thickeners (e.g. salt, xanthan, cellulose derivatives), relipidising oils with emulsifiers, fragrances, care substances and preservatives. The pH value is usually around 5.5.

How is shower gel manufactured industrially?

Surfactants are dissolved in water, powders and thickeners are drawn in under vacuum, additives are mixed in, and pH value and viscosity are adjusted. Large quantities are also produced continuously.

How can foam and air inclusions be avoided?

By working under vacuum, adding powders and liquids below the liquid level and using adapted speeds.

Which machine is suitable for shower gel?

Vacuum homogenising mixers with a scraper agitator, powder and liquid induction, optional pH measurement in the homogeniser chamber and CIP cleaning.

Does SEEFRIED supply plants for shower gel and shampoo?

Yes, we design batch and continuous plants and offer inspected used homogenising mixers.
