Manufacturing shaving cream

Above all, a good shaving cream ensures a gentle shave. It should also care for the skin. This requires numerous active ingredients and a well-coordinated manufacturing process. We design and supply homogenising mixers that reliably implement this process. More on this under Cosmetics.

What a shaving cream has to do

Soften beard hair

The cream lets the hairs swell with moisture and become soft.

Form a gliding film

A film between blade and skin enables an easy shave.

Care for the skin

Caring active ingredients soothe the skin after shaving.

Why vacuum is so important

Shaving creams contain a lot of soaps and surfactants. Air stirred in would therefore lead to foam in the vessel itself. This changes the density and makes exact filling difficult. Mixing and deaeration under vacuum are therefore crucial steps.

With shaving foam and shaving gel from an aerosol can, the propellant is only added during filling. Foaming therefore only takes place during use.

Requirements for the homogenising mixer

  • Vacuum- and pressure-resistant design for air-free processing
  • Powerful agitators and special mixing systems for fine emulsification
  • Aseptic GMP design
  • Integrated CIP system for efficient cleaning

FAQ: Manufacturing shaving cream

What does a good shaving cream have to do?

It should soften and swell the beard hairs, let the blade glide and care for the skin. This requires soaps or surfactants, fatty substances, humectants and care substances in a fine emulsion.

How is shaving cream manufactured?

The fat and water phases are emulsified hot, fatty acids are saponified if necessary, and the mixture is homogenised, cooled while stirring, and active ingredients and fragrances are added.

Why produce under vacuum or a protective atmosphere?

Premature air entrainment leads to foam in the vessel, dosing problems during filling and poorer product quality. Vacuum keeps the product free of air.

Which machine is suitable?

Pressure- and vacuum-resistant homogenising mixers with a powerful agitator, homogeniser and CIP system.

Does SEEFRIED supply plants for shaving products?

Yes, we design plants and offer inspected used homogenising mixers.
