Shower Gel Production

In the production of shower gels, starting materials of varying consistencies/features are combined to give a stable, effective starting substance in the course of production. The basis of most shower gels is an aqueous surfactant solution. Re-fatting oils are distributed stably by means of emulsifiers, such as lecithin, fatty alcohols, lactic acid esters or glyceryl laurate. In the case of high water content, thickening agents, gelling agents and additional auxiliary substances, such as xanthan, cellulose, alginate and polyglycerol ester, are also added in order to produce a pleasantly viscous base. Surfactants are added to the shower gels and give them their cleaning effect. An important factor here is regulation of the pH-value in the range around 5.5.

The production of shower gels requires a highly efficient, multi-stage process. The homogenising mixers/process plants employed should be extensively equipped and possess a wide range of equipment options for optimum processes in the production of shower gels. By suction of water and powder under fluid level in the area of the dispersion tool, the powder is incorporated quickly and without clumping.

Vacuum-proof machine design prevents the undesirable incorporation of air. A scraper system that is independent of the rotation direction, in combination with vertical and horizontal mixing agitators, achieves optimum mixing in the case of highly viscous substances. In some cases it may be useful if there is the option of installing a pH-value monitoring device in the homogenisation chamber.

Aseptic GMP design of the plants, an integrated CIP-System under the lid and the homogenising mixer also ensure efficient production processes and compliance with all hygiene regulations during the production of shower gels.

FAQ: Producing shower gel

What is shower gel made of?

Mainly water and cleansing surfactants, plus thickeners (e.g. salt, xanthan, cellulose derivatives), re-fatting oils with emulsifiers, fragrances, care ingredients and preservatives. The pH is usually around 5.5.

How is shower gel produced industrially?

Surfactants are dissolved in water, powders and thickeners are drawn in under vacuum, additives are mixed in, and pH and viscosity are adjusted. Large volumes are also produced continuously.

How are foam and air inclusions avoided?

By working under vacuum, adding powders and liquids below the liquid level and using adapted speeds.

Which machine is suitable for shower gel?

Vacuum homogenising mixers with scraper agitator, powder and liquid induction, optional pH measurement in the homogeniser chamber and CIP cleaning.

Does SEEFRIED supply plants for shower gel and shampoo?

Yes, we plan batch and continuous plants and offer inspected used homogenising mixers.
